I inherited my interest in fire fighting from my father. He was a Battle Creek City Firefighter for 26 years. So I thought I would take you on a tour of Fire Departments in the western part of Calhoun County.
Battle Creek Fire Department (BCFD) is a paid department, with over 100 members serving 6 stations. They work 24 hours on and 48 hours off. Each rig is staffed a minimum of one officer and 2 firefighters per shift. The stations and apparatus include:
Battle Creek provides mutual aid to the following townships in Calhoun County and on request to other areas:
Apartment complexes and factories in the City of Springfield.
The Haz Mat unit responds to calls on the Western part of Calhoun County and the Eastern part of Kalamazoo County and else as needed.
Both Pennfield and Bedford Townships have asked for and received help from BCFD in the last year.

From Michigan Air National Guard Base for incidents at the WK Kellogg Regional Airport.
Each October, in connection with Fire Prevention Week, the Calhoun County Fire Chief's hosts a fire apparatus static display at Bailey Park.
